"work to live or live to work"
If you ever at anytime in your life want to change your career, dig deep and make sure to fully commit yourself. Ah Ha, I did not plan on that pun but it may be fitting :-) Making a career change is tough and you need to muster up lots of energy and time to get through all the leg and headwork it will take. I couldn’t do it but then again; I have not been able to make a serious effort towards doing it.
For the most part my career has been shaped by events and situations that have happened over the period I have worked. From the age of 14 until now, 31 some years, I have been shaking the bushes and finding my way along many pathways. All I have ever done I have always wanted to do. I am very successful in terms of what I know and what I can do. I am however, unable to find that career which truly fits and fulfills me. I am not displeased because over the years I have come to understand why this is so. You have heard the saying many times and it fits me like a glove, I’m a “jack of all trades and master of none.” And this I suppose, is something I could never change because I love to learn. I learn and get really good at my work and then it happens. I get bored to death because I am no longer challenged and move on to learn another discipline. Now, I’m getting tired of taking on big learning challenges and have plenty of things I enjoy doing. If bored with one hobby I move to another. Work is merely something I go and do so I can come home and play. It is not a bad way to live and I tried to think of ways that I could change careers at mid-life but I could not get the job done. I’m just satisfied with what I have at this point or too tired to change it. Anyway, You can read about my effort and maybe you will be able to relate to something, maybe not. In any case, there are a few good links to follow if you’re planning to dig in and make a change. Good luck if you do go that direction!
