The GSAR Project
Mission Background
Friday, January 16, 2004
"The GSAR Project" was born because I wanted an "easier way" to put a stop to the never ending battle between my Purple Martins and one of their enemies, the common house sparrow. It's a terrible problem and during the Martin season, it incessantly bugs me. Trapping them is a pain in the butt. Trying to shoot them with Diana, a finely tuned target pellet rifle, works, but it's extremely time consuming and the sparrows catch on much too quick. So what's a guy to do? Invent, got to invent something better. How about a Remote-Control-Video-Camera-Guided-Sparrow-Assault-Rover you say? Cool, let's do it, that will be the mission.
It sounds complicated, it's touching every corner of a box of "impossible". Have you ever been given a box of impossible? Like when you gaze up at the ceiling and scratch your head feeling miffed and think, where do I start, what do I do? Well, not to worry, I'm going to show you how to overcome being miffed. Help you shed your fear of jumping into something where you have absolutely no idea of where to start or what to do. I'll take you step by step through this project and prove two things. One, every problem has a solution if you really put your mind to it and two, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to build complicated projects. The key to it all? You just have to be a little bit ig'nert. So, what to do first?
