"Tongue lashing"

Sing it - Who do ya know...

Ya just have to love uncle Larry, hurmph. He did a fine job of telling me what he thought about who I was and how benign my life has been and is. I understand that it's human nature to 'lash' out at those we love and sometimes things need to get said to 'clear the air'. It's hard to understand 'why' sometimes.
This time I understood and although it was hard to swallow, I did get over it. Larry is about as normal as we all are but, he got on a rant that day and it's not always easy to deal with. Recovering from verbal and mental assault is a slow process and at times it can be debilitating.

It's when you really need to take a deep breath and remember who you are and focus on those many things that are good. If you take what is said to the point of truth, then 'your' reality shifts in the wrong direction. Unless you can constructively put together the other persons meaning into some form that builds your feelings up, your liable to suffer destructive patterns of thought and it's going to set you back. Hang on to that which gives you the most strength and in time you will heal.
