"Why Char?"

Only the good die young... Billy Joel
I ran into Char last week in the grocery store. We talked a bit after a couple months of not seeing each other. We (I) were still trying to sort things out about our relationship. I had basically given up, she was still holding on. I just didn't feel the type of feelings that I thought I should. Anyway, in the grocery store, Char had checked out and decided to come find me in the store to let me know that she still wanted to help paint my stupid front porch on my house. It was a special attempt to reach out, her way of letting me know she was still thinking of me.
(We had talked about it several times in the past, she liked to paint (NOT SCRAPE). Of course I had her convinced that it wasn't a two way street, if she was going to paint, she was going to have to scrape.) We would laugh cause I had previously confessed my hatred towards scraping and she knowingly had let me convince her that scraping wasn't that bad, in fact it was probably a good thing. I know it doesn't make much sense and I really have no point...
Char was killed this morning in a single car crash. Her mother was at the wheel and sis in the passenger front seat. Char was thrown from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother probably fell asleep, somehow she lost control entered the median and rolled. Char's sis (also my buddies wife) has a broken neck and bad head injuries and sounds like she'll pull through and recover. It sounds like the mother will be ok also.
Why the Lord picked Char, I'll never understand. She was all those good things that people try to be and aren't.

Chars brother was killed in a single car accident when in his twenties. Chars' sister has lost two siblings now and her mother will live with the tragedy of being forever behind the wheel of the SUV. Life takes these hard left and right turns and then it rolls over you, just like the accident. It changes the rules, it sucks.
